Five Best "In Game" Events That Actually Brought People Back

What up Nerds!

It's been a few days, and it is with the arrival of the new Overwatch event that has me reflecting on other events in video games that have successfully brought me back to their world to dump dozens of more hours while ignoring other game/real life obligations.
With that being said, I want to start with the previously mentioned..

Overwatch

Nerf This

This past Tuesday the new Overwatch Uprising event launched. Finally we have some form of campaign/story added in. Not poorly bunched together either. A hoard like mode where you and three other teammates collaborate to complete mini objectives utilizing the abilities of all the unique characters.
The mission in question always begins with a cutscene finally giving us a little glimpse of a story that we have seen outside of the character trailers before the initial release of the game. the event feels very similar to a Strike from Destiny. No where near as complicated as a raid, however I feel that we are not too far off. This event seems to be extremely successful and has people (like myself) grinding my ass off to hopefully get those sweet epic skins... Soon that Genji skin will be mine.. or it wont, because RNGesus hates me.

Destiny

Age of Triumph

Possibly the reigning kind of "In Game Events". Not even including expansions that have greatly improved a flawed game and made it insanely addicting and one of the best games to play with a dedicated group of people. Bungie also adds in free updates that give people some incentive to come back and get some exclusive gear. I'm grouping them all in here as one because there are quite a few. Festival of Lights, Sparrow Racing League, Age of Triumph and the monthly recurring Iron Banner. Bungie has found the formula to bring people back to their game even on a week to week basis. because you just need to know what Xur is selling each and every week.
With Destiny 2 on the way far sooner than i could have anticipated leaves one to believe that this game has been in development longer than we can assume. Bungie has also taken fan feedback to heart multiple times in the past, I can only imagine how big of a memory gap in my real life I will suffer when Destiny 2 comes this September.

Diablo 3

A new yearly event in Diablo 3

Yes yes, surprise. Yet another article with Diablo in it. You have realized that it has been destroying my life and is the sole reason that I have still not been able to get to FFXV DLC. We will get Seasons out in the open. Yes, ever two to three months Blizzard gives you more and more reasons to dive back into Sanctuary and slay the demons of hell. This January that has passed we saw the Darkening of Tristram event. This event was in celebration of 20 years in a post-Diablo world. This even saw you return to Tristram in both location and in graphics to decent into the Cathedral to put and end to Diablo and some of the other iconic bosses from the original (Shout out to The Butcher).
With how long Blizzard supports their games post release, I'm sure we can expect a lot more from Diablo and other Blizz titles in the years to come.

DC Universe Online

Dumb? Yes. Fun? Extremely

A game many most likely haven't played. Which is fair because its not a game that will blow you away. But hell, if you like DC Comics and MMOs, why not give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised. The game will introduce events every few months where for limited amounts of time you can band together to fight iconic DC villains such as Brainiac and the current major event happening right now, Starro the first ever Justice League villain. DCUO honestly doesn't get nearly as much credit as it deserves. I always come back to it from time to time, and believe me, once they introduce the water powers I will be waiting day one to log back in and finally create my own Aquaman trainee.

Call of Duty (Pick one)

Like I said, pick one

The original in game event reigns supreme. None of what was mentioned would exist now if it werent for the in game event that many of us roll our eyes at now, but went nuts about just five years ago. Double Experience Weekends. I could have been done with CoD for months. but when I was in highschool and heard that Modern Warfare 2 was having a whole weekend of Double XP, me and my friends would get together at one house, bring our TV's and play all goddamn weekend. We planned for it, drinks were bought, food was made/ordered and homework was completely ignored.
I know CoD was not the first game to include a Double Experience event for a game, but due to it's popularity and the huge traffic of people who came back to the game every single time they would breath word of this magical weekend, other developers absolutely took notice.

So there you have it. I know it may not be a top ten, but I have some things in the works for the site coming up (A possible podcast perhaps?). However until I have that all sorted out, this is your weeks Top Ten (Five). If I left any out that you may consider to be important please don't hesitate to let me know!

I'm Out, Nerds!

P.s: Completely irrelevant but I recently did the most nerdy thing in my recent memory. Due to my insane addiction to Diablo, I purchased not one, but two Diablo novels.. I am a huge nerd, but never in my life have I read a novel that takes place in the world of my beloved video games.. That being said, if you know of any good VG Novels that you have read feel free to share!
