Hidden Gem #1 The Technomancer
Hello fellow nerds! Welcome to my first post here on Relatable Nerds, My name is Daniel AKA SenorAsssHat I am a good friend of Brandon and decided to try my hand at writing some articles to share my passion of videos games with you and hopefully show you some new games and learn about some new ones myself.
Speaking with Brandon we decided to bring up some new segments that might be staying around depending on how well they preform. The first segment we want to try is called "Hidden Gems" These games not necessarily triple AAA titles, These are the games you might find in an EB Games and go "huh, never heard of this before" our goal is to have the same effect except it's online and you don't need to leave your house... Or put pants on... Yeah, we are nice and respect your laziness... The goal of these hidden gems are to showcase and bring awareness to these games that go unnoticed and forgotten otherwise.
So the first game on our list is "The Technomancer" This Action RPG came out June 28th 2016 worldwide on all platforms (Xbox, PS4 and PC) it was created by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive. The Technomancer is a sequel to Spiders previous game "Mars: War Logs" but the best thing is you do not need to play Mars in order to understand what is going on although there might be some winks to the old game if you pay attention.
The story is pretty easy to understand I am only about 6 hours in currently... The game is set during the War of Water, 200 years after humans colonized Mars Your main character named Zachariah Mancer is a novice Technomancer from the town Abundance, who is on the run from the secret police. The government enslaves anyone who isn't a plain human. This causes The Technomancers who are basically cyber punk Jedi, reason to remain in the shadows. The Technomancers were "given" powers through mutations that affected people when they arrived on mars. Some people mutated into creatures... Others transformed into Technomancers, so they hide to remain safe from being enslaved.
The combat is actually very close to the Batman Arkham games, you move fluently through fights dodging to keep yourself from getting destroyed by swarms of thugs and yes this is a hard game...(Dark souls worthy even). Even on normal if you are careless and just button mash you will be left a bloody lump on the floor, not having a good time.
Outside of combat you get a Skyrim/Mass Effect feel, where you can have "Relations" with either men or woman... It's a simple time on Mars... There are multiple routes you can take for building your character these will affect your combat and game play outside of battles. You can be stealthy (Dagger and gun), a bruiser (Mace/club and shield) or a guardian (Staff and magic) After choosing where you reside then the real fun begins with a Skyrim like skill tree where you can upgrade your skills and become a master locksmith and steal from everyone at any point, or even be a master craftsman and make your own weapons from scratch. Since there is a lot of ways to play and different options and endings to the game there is replay value which makes several playthroughs possible.
During your adventures you also can have companions who help you in battle and take fire off of you for a moment to catch your breath for enough time to lay waste to enemies. My first companion was a doctor who used a pistol and didn't know the art of DODGING!!!... Yeah, he got bitch slapped a lot while I stood behind enemies stabbing their kidneys like it was going out of style... His death was a great tragedy... I am not sure how many companions are available in the game but I bet there is a companion to offset every build so I am hopeful..
The world of Technomancer is broken down into large maps where you can free roam finding items scattered all over the place, mostly scraps so you can craft better equipment. The story takes you places and makes you feel for these people and their hardships, so it's difficult not to get invested.
The voice acting can be bad at times and the lip sync can be horrible. But these things do not make or break the game. It's just mildly annoying when I am use to watching lips move when people talk. (Personal problems)
So in summary if you are looking for an action RPG that you can sink countless hours on (80+) if you try to 100% it, The Technomancer will provide a much needed scratch to an itch you might never knew you had and it will leave you satisfied and may even become a new favourite.
I hope you all enjoyed our first hidden gem article, did you know this game existed or did we succeed and show you a game that might find it's way onto your wishlist or library. Let us know down below in the comments! If you enjoyed this article make sure you share it on social media to spread the word for this awesome little gem.

I'm 40+ hours into The Technomancer and I can say that it easily worth the price tag of 20 dollars that I paid for it. I love the fact that you can effectively play as all 4 classes (Technomancer, Rouge, Warrior, Guardian) without even put any points into a skill tree provided you have a decent weapon that is upgraded to the max of your current abilities in crafting. I personally would suggest putting all your skill points into Technomancy, and by the time you have completed that tree, you will know all the strengths/weaknesses of each class, and can either go all in to one skill tree of a class you love and want to play with exclusively or you can do like me and strategically put points into each classes skill tree, choosing skills/abilities wisely based on sufficient experience facing every different type of enemy/battle scenario. Honestly, the combat system makes any enemy/battle that becomes repititive fresh by giving you the ability to instantly change class ("battle stance") at any second! If you are willing to look past a somewhat "empty feeling" world, full of NPC's that say and do nothing interesting, not even acknowledging you exist if they don't have a story arc, then you will find a rich combat/class system along with a believable story that, while may not be the most inspiring, will keep you invested enough to care about major storyline-affecting decisions you make along the way and see it through till the very end.

almost every side quest feels like it matters to the game world, and by doing a majority of them, you will make the world feel more personal and the main story arc more compelling.
