New Generation: Why I made the switch

Hello folks, it's been well over a whole calander year, seems appropriate for me to post something on here so I can tell myself this blog is still relevant. I wanted to dive in on the topic of the new console generation. Specifically why I, a pretty huge Playstation "fanboy" has decided to make the switch to the Xbox for the first time. Keep in mind, that most of this is just extremely personal and is not meant to influence anyone.
So, why did I ultimately make this change? I have a few reasons as to why I switched. But they mostly boil down to the same core reason. Which is funds. Or lack there of. Let's start with the most blatent one. I am a man in my late 20's and in May of last year learned that I had a baby on the way. So immediately I started going into money hording mode. At this point in May, I was still convinced I would get a PS5 as my last "big" purchase for myself before the baby arrived. However, in May we haven't heard anything about prices on either console, or any details at all. But this didn't bother me too much. There was no way I was going to go Xbox. I've always had a Playstation. That's where all my Trophies are. My Platinum achievements. Where all my (assumiibly) backwards compatible digital library was. It wasn't too much later I really learned what Game Pass was. I had heard about it before, I never paid too much attention as it was outside my tiny echo chamber. I figured at best it was just like PS Now. Stream a bunch of older games, with the occational year old game sprinkled in there. I was wrong. Not only has Microsoft put their money where their mouth was by releasing Gears 5 day 1 on Game Pass, but when they showed their plans to have every single Microsoft Studio game release day and date on Game Pass. This certainly caught my curiosity. But I could never go against my love for Sony and the amazing first party line up they have built over the last two generations alone.
Then the price dropped. Let me cut to the chase here. I bought the Xbox Series S. Yes, the S version. Why? As I mentioned before, the price is what was important for me. I realized I didnt need 4K. But what I did need was that SSD, and a new system that didnt sound like it was going to blow a hole in the roof of my apartment every single time I turned it on. The Series S price was right. For me at least. Someone who was expecting a baby, and the promise of Game Pass being the Netflix of games. Sure, tons of games wont be on Game Pass day 1. Or even at all. However, being on a tight budget means that I could pay the $15 a month and still get the joy of having new games to play without having to fork over extra for it. This doesnt mean I will be left out of the loop for all big releases. I will still get to participate in the conversations for all major xbox releases. Such as Avowed, Fable and of course Halo and much more. This also doesnt mean that I will stop buying games. I'm human. And gaming is a dangerous addiction that is bad on the wallet. But one that I think Game Pass has already helped me keep slightly under control. Playstation might be an ivy league school that has a premium feel to it, but I have discovered that Xbox is like the Trade School. You get out of it exactly what you would expect. An amazing console on par with it's high end equal, but tailor made for people like me who still wanna jump in on the ground floor without needing to front so much cash day one.
